Do We Sell Herbal Medicine?

This sounds like a really simple question, but it’s far more complicated in reality to answer than it would initially appear. Pharmaceutical products, by their very nature, quite rightly have a licensing system attached to them which involves very detailed  and in-depth clinical trials before a product can be given a licence. This is very important, as it means that any drug which is prescribed to you has been through very stringent standards of testing.

The downside to this is that the costs involved to meet these very high standards are only really viable if you’re able to recoup quite a lot of money for your drug. It’s also not especially relevant in many cases with natural remedies where the dividing line in holistic health between food and medicine is a lot more ‘sketchy’. For example, olive oil is fantastic for treating earache, but to most of us, it’s primarily a salad dressing!

Pharmaceutical law is there to protect all of us,  particularly given that many conventional pharmaceutical preparations could be very dangerous if misused. There are exceptions to the rules for traditional herbal medicine, but that may only be prescribed after a face-to-face consultation. For these reasons, none of our products are pharmaceutical products from a legal standpoint, and none of our products are designed to cure disease or treat illness. Using our products is not a replacement for consulting a medical professional, whether a GP or an allied practitioner such as a naturopath, chiropractor or herbalist.

We sell herbal teas and cosmetic products which, like our bottle of olive oil, may contain ingredients which are helpful in treating certain conditions, but are primarily a refreshing cup of herbal tea, a nice smelling bath product or a nice fragrance for your home. All our herbal teas are made in the UK according to UK and European food safety and hygiene regulations.

All our products designed to be used on the body are tested on people (never animals), and are certified by an independent laboratory according to UK and European cosmetics and toiletries legislation.

We hope this answers any questions you may have about what we sell but, if not, please feel free to get in touch -we’re more than happy to help! Our team includes a Master Herbalist who is also happy to answer any questions you may have, or help point you in the right direction if it’s outside our capabilities to answer. Please refer to our contacts page, or use the form below to get in touch.
